Concept check 27.3 Isabel María Jervis
1. Explain why homeostasis is important to your body's functioning.
Homeostasis is what maintains the stability of the body, this stability is needed because tissues can survive only under certain conditions, these conditions are known as set points, and homeostasis produces changes in your body to maintain these set points as the outside environment changes. Homeostasis helps maintain body equilibrium.
2. Give three examples of ways your skin helps maintain homeostasis in your body.
Skin provides a barer between dirt and microorganisms to keep them from entering the body, another example is that skin reacts to stimuli when there is a temperature change, an example of this is sweating. Integumentary system is also important in maintaining homeostasis hair provides protection against UV rays and it also provides insulation against temperature, eyebrows and eyelashes protect eyes. The last example is that skin acts like a cushion to protect internal organs from injury.
3. Explain one way that your body maintains a constant temperature while outside on a cold day.
One example of this is shivering which is caused by the rapid contraction of skeletal muscles the muscles release heat that helps maintain the body temperature.
I liked how specific your examples to question number two where, you included facts that made it interesting to the reader.
ReplyDeleteGreat examples on how the hair covers our scalp from UV radiation and how the eyelashes protect our eyes from bacteria!!!
