Assignment one: Read section 27.3 of the online Biology book. Answer the following questions and provide constructive feedback to at least three other learners.
1. Explain why homeostasis is important to your body's functioning.
Homeostasis is important to our body's functioning because it helps stabilize it. Only by having internal stability can the tissues in the body surive and function properly. The boy has a narrow range of conditions known as set points and when the external conditions affect your internal stability, then the body reacts to maintain the set points.
2. Give three examples of ways your skin helps maintain homeostasis in your body.
Your body maintains homeostasis in your body by several ways. Some examples are when the external temperature is cold, then your body starts shivering which are muscle contractions that release heat to keep you warm. In contrats, when the tempreature is too high, you sweat causing evaporate cooling that keeps you from overheating.
The integumentary system is really important in homeostasis as well. Your skin provides a physical barrier against dirt and microorganisms entering your body. It also responds to stimuli or changes in the environment, like tempreature changes and water content in order to sweat. The hair in your head protects it from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
3. Explain one way that your body maintains a constant temperature while outside on a cold day.
When the external temperature is cold, your body reacts and tries to stabilize your internal environment so you start to shiver. Shivering is the contraction of skeletal muscles, when they contract they release heat warming your body.
I like the way you put the examples in question number two. They are very detailed and there is a lot of examples that makes us understand clearly how our skin helps mantain homeostasis in our body. Great job.
ReplyDeletethe questions are nicely answered and very well explained. You did an awsome job.
ReplyDeleteyoure totally right on what homeostasis does and i think that its not only stabilize but make a contrary reaction to what is happening.
